STAMFORD – A New York resident was killed early Thursday after being hit by a train at Stamford station, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transit Authority confirmed.

The victim has been identified as Noel Smith, 54, of New Rochelle, NY, MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan said.

Authorities said the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. and was being investigated as “non-criminal in nature”.

The death marked the second fatal rail incident in the area in less than 24 hours, after a man in his 30s was struck and killed by a train in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich on Wednesday afternoon.

This incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Donovan identified the victim of that incident in Greenwich as 38-year-old Michael Haden Crouse of Newington.

Correction: This story was updated after authorities clarified that the victim killed in Stamford was male.
