Formby Station: Teenagers Attack British Transport Police Worker | United Kingdom | News
Shocking mobile phone footage shows the group of around six boys, all dressed in dark clothing, bullying, kicking and chasing two staff members at Formby station in Merseyside. The clip shows one of the teenagers shouting “get off our station guy” as the gang bullies the men.
It is believed that one of the youngsters kicked a member of staff in the back which led to the confrontation.
But the gruesome video shows the thugs chasing staff members down a flight of stairs.
We hear the teenagers laughing and screaming and a girl shouts “oh my god, they’re fucking doing it”.
Another of the teenagers shouts ‘do it now’ as they run towards the station entrance, reports Echo of Liverpool.
The gang back the security guard into a corner at the station entrance where they again attempt to kick him.
The two staff members eventually managed to secure themselves behind a locked door, it is understood.
The sickening attack happened on Sunday evening and British Transport Police have since condemned the violence.
Superintendent David Rams of the force said: “This is completely unacceptable and I will ensure an investigation is launched.
“He’s not a policeman, he’s a member of security. Still appalling behavior.”
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said today that investigations are still ongoing into the incident. Merseyside Police also said BTP had launched an investigation with their “support” and confirmed the individuals in the video were railway staff and not a police officer.
A BTP spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo: “British Transport Police received a report at 7.37pm on Sunday April 3 of an assault on railway staff at Formby station.
“We are aware that images showing this incident are circulating on social media and investigations are still ongoing.
“Any witnesses, or anyone with video footage of the incident, are asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 531 of 3 April.
“Officers are conducting increased patrols in the area following the incident.”
Andy Heath, chief executive of Merseyrail, has moved to reassure the public that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated by the rail service and he is working closely with BTP to catch the culprits.
He said: “We are aware of an incident at Formby station on Sunday evening in which staff were attacked by a group of young people.
“Although incidents of this nature are extremely rare on our network, I would like to reassure the public that this type of behavior will not be tolerated and we are working closely with the British Transport Police to identify those involved in order to s ensure that they can be held accountable for their actions.”
